There are many reasons why I believe that every child should have the dance experience but let’s just check out the top 10.
Let’s start with...
#1 -Physical Fitness
Dance encourages physical health by getting the body moving, building strength, flexibility and coordination. (Getting the body moving also helps with mental health)
#2 -Self Expression
Dance facilitates a safe space to explore their emotions and release in a healthy manor.
#3 - Confidence
As one of our core values, this is an important one, being supported and practicing a skill in a healthy environment enables children’s confidence to sore.
#4 - Discipline
Dance requires practice, work and following some basic guidelines to excel at the art. Dancers will learn how to focus themselves and set a clear path forward.
#5 - Social skills
Teamwork is a big part of the dance community and gives the dancers a chance to make friendships and practice being a good human.
#6 - Cultural Awareness
Being a part of the dance community exposes dancers to all walks of life and teaches them that acceptance and diversity matters. It is truly a universal language.
#7 - Stress Release
Dance is a great way to release their emotions in safe and healthy way.
#8 - Time Management
As dancers grow and take multiple classes schedules can become challenging. It teaches dancers (and sometimes even parents) how to work it out.
#9 - Mind-Body Connection
We all get in our head too much at times, dance encourages you to reconnect to the body.
#10 - Life Skills
I say it all the time, not every dancer will become a professional dancer, but every dancer will become a citizen so lets get those skills working. These include dedication, commitment, perseverance and goal setting to set them up for a successful life path.
No matter which of these stood out to you the most, let me encourage you to stop viewing dance as just an after school activity to add to the list because as you can see it so much more.
